Frequently Asked Questions |
|
Are granite countertops hard to maintain? |
No, Granite is a very durable stone. It is also much harder than marble. Granite has been used in the past in the commercial industry. Some of the obvious applications have been panels on the outside of buildings, walls, and floors of "high-traffic" areas.
Granite will withstand almost any element it comes up against including heat and cold. Granite itself is approximately 95-98% stain resistant but, we use a silicone impregnator on all of our natural stone products. This will insure lasting life and beauty. |
|
Can I cut on my Granite countertop? |
| Only if you want to ruin your good knives. Granite is harder than your knife blades and will dull them very quickly, if you use the countertop as a cutting surface. Always cut and chop on a wooden or plastic cutting board. |
|
What is your turnaround time? |
| Under normal circumstances it takes two weeks from the time that we come out and create a template of the countertop to the time we install it. |
|
I am considering purchasing a granite countertop for my kitchen. Is it expensive? |
| This depends on the choice of stone that you select. There are many different stones in which to choose from that are on the lower end of the cost scale but will give you all the beauty and durability that you can only get with natural stone. |
|
Can I use marble in my kitchen? |
| We do not recommend the use of Marbles, Travertines or Limestones on kitchen countertops. The reason is that these types of natural stones, unlike granite, are very soft and porous. In a high-traffic area, like a kitchen, marble will stain and scratch very easily.
However, marble is a great surface for rolling out dough for pastry, breads and cookies. It maintains a cool surface temperature and dough will typically not stick to marble. If you are a baker and would like this feature in your kitchen, we would recommend incorporating one small marble countertop in to the kitchen to be used exclusively for this purpose. |
|
Do you sell remnants? |
| Absolutely! If you are planning a small vanity top or something small like furniture, the best thing to is to call and make an appointment to come down and pick out a piece from our large inventory of remnants. |
